Why We Screen Before Departure
For the safety of all students and staff, every student will go through a security screening process at school before boarding the bus to Disneyland Resort. This is a standard safety procedure for large group events and is similar to screening used at concerts, airports, and theme parks. Screening takes place with the cooperation of school staff and, if applicable, campus safety personnel or law enforcement liaisons.
What Happens During Screening
-
Step 1: Check-In
Students check in with staff and present their student ID and Grad Nite ticket/boarding pass.
-
Step 2: Bag Check
All bags, purses, and containers will be visually inspected or run through screening equipment, similar to airport or theme park security.
-
Step 3: Walk-Through / Handheld Screening
Students will walk through a metal detector or be screened with a handheld wand, consistent with school safety protocol.
-
Step 4: Personal Item Review
Staff may ask students to briefly open bags or remove items such as jackets, belts, or electronics for a closer look.
-
Step 5: Boarding
Once cleared, students proceed to their assigned bus with a chaperone.
Prohibited Items
The following items are strictly prohibited and will be confiscated. Bringing certain items may also result in disciplinary action per school policy.
Allowed Items
This list is a general guideline. Always follow the most current list of allowed/prohibited items provided directly by your school, as Disneyland Resort security requirements may also apply once on-site.
Tips for a Smooth Screening
- Pack light — smaller bags move through screening faster.
- Avoid bringing prohibited items altogether rather than risking confiscation or discipline.
- Have your student ID and boarding pass ready before you reach the front of the line.
- Wear easily removable layers in case staff ask you to take off a jacket for screening.
- Arrive at the check-in time listed on the Bus Signup Information page — not the bus departure time.
